Rain Sensor Module MH-RD with Control Board & Jumper Wires
The Rain Sensor Module is an essential electronic component designed for real-time weather monitoring and liquid detection. Built specifically for integration with microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi, this high-sensitivity rain sensor module detects raindrops, rain intensity, and surface water accumulation. Whether you are building an automated home weather station or an industrial environmental tracker, this module provides accurate dual-output detection to meet your project needs.
How the Rain Sensor Module Works
The rain sensor module operates using a conductive sensing grid paired with an LM393 comparator circuit.
Conductivity Measurement: The large sensing plate features exposed nickel-plated copper tracks. Under dry conditions, the plate maintains high resistance, resulting in no signal output.
Raindrop Contact: When raindrops land on the nickel tracks, the water bridges the conductive paths, instantly lowering the electrical resistance.
Signal Conversion: The control board evaluates the change in resistance. It provides a real-time analog output representing water volume, while the onboard LM393 comparator generates a digital HIGH/LOW signal based on a customizable threshold.
Key Features
Dual Signal Output: Offers both Analog Output (AO) for precise liquid volume measurement and Digital Output (DO) for simple logic switching.
Adjustable Sensitivity: Features an onboard potentiometer to calibrate the digital threshold for light drizzles or heavy downpours.
Corrosion-Resistant Surface: Built with high-quality, double-sided anti-oxidation nickel plating to resist wear, rust, and long-term environmental degradation.
Wide Voltage Compatibility: Operates seamlessly across a standard supply range of 3.3V to 5V DC.
Power & Status Indicators: Equipped with built-in LEDs indicating power status (Power LED) and digital switching status (DO LED).
Plug-and-Play Wiring: Pre-packaged with standard jumper cables for fast breadboard or custom circuit board assembly.

Practical Applications
The versatility of the rain sensor module makes it suitable for automated systems, agricultural technologies, and DIY electronics:
Automated Window Closers: Detects rainfall immediately and triggers motorized window mechanisms to protect indoor areas from water damage.
Smart Agricultural Irrigation: Paired with soil sensors to turn off automatic sprinklers during rainfall, conserving water and preventing overwatering.
Weather Stations: Tracks weather conditions and sends live rain alerts over Wi-Fi/Bluetooth when paired with IoT boards like the ESP32.
Automotive Rain-Sensing Wipers: Serves as a prototype foundation for automated windshield wiper control systems in vehicle design.
Leak Detection Systems: Works as a surface flood or overflow monitor in homes, server rooms, and industrial enclosures.
Pinout and Connection Guide
Connecting the rain sensor module to your development board requires four quick connections:
VCC: Connect to 3.3V or 5V power source.
GND: Connect to system Ground.
DO (Digital Output): Connect to any digital I/O pin (outputs LOW when rain is detected).
AO (Analog Output): Connect to an analog input pin (A0) to read varying rain levels based on moisture volume.
